the meating is a jazz-liminal duo project composed of multi-instrumentalist Marc Micu and electric guitarist Ryan Keating, both based in Victoria, BC. While active in many projects together as bandmates, the duo decided to initiate the meating over an intense love for jazz, busking and performing across Vancouver Island. Their music attracted a lot of buzz from passers-by, saying that it is “what the city needs” as it complimented the urban cityscape of Vancouver Island.Now having been featured on CHEK News, CBC Radio, Capital Daily, and Victoria News with a full-length album out, the meating has become one of the fastest growing musical groups in British Columbia of this year, with over half a million collective views across all their media platforms in a little over two months.

From Victoria BC, Marc Micu is a multi-instrumentalist, educator, composer, arranger, researcher, and advocate for all things music. Growing up in Surrey and Vancouver, he has etched his name into BC’s musical realm by dedicating his life to performing a variety of genres in several ensemble formats such as jazz, funk, rock, bluegrass, fusion, art-music, contemporary, country, ska, reggaeton, mariachi, indie, folk, orchestra, opera, show tunes, and pop.Marc has had a long history of ensemble leadership, dating back from running jazz combos in high school and university through his now defunct group "Marc Micu & Friends". Now, Marc is the director of his brass quintet “Kasperl Quintet”, as well as jazz ambience duo project with Ryan Keating called "the Meating", having released an album titled "the meating: volume one (live from P0)."Marc is also an active performer and a regular member of the country band Reuben Shepherd Band, and Afrobeats musician TK the Artist on trumpet.Marc has also worked with musicians and groups such as multiple Grammy and Juno-Award Winning Alex Cuba, Brigit O’Regan, Faustino Diaz, Caleb Hart, Rooky Kamiz, Thistle, Cole Benzo, the Naden Band, the Alternative Symphony, Mariachi Sin Frontera, Festive Brass, Commodores Big Band, and the West Coast Soul Collective.In addition to performing regularly, Marc facilitates a private brass lessons studio, and works as a music educator and TTOC in the Greater Victoria School District (SD61).

Ryan Keating is a versatile musician and performer with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, specializing in jazz and contemporary music. Drawing from a strong foundation in jazz, and years of live performance experience, Ryan has developed a dynamic style rooted in improvisation and creativity.Throughout his career, he has performed with a variety of groups including indie-folk band Thistle, raw pop-punk band 9Iron, jazz inspired country group Reuben Shepherd Band, and jazz-ambient project The Meating with Marc Micu. Ryan’s musicianship spans across diverse genres and stages. Known for his adaptability and expressive playing, Ryan brings energy and professionalism to every performance, whether it be an intimate venue, or a rowdy festival.His passion for jazz continues to shape his evolving sound, blending technical skill with creativity and authenticity. Ryan’s work as the production coordinator at the Victoria Jazz Society has allowed him to develop and grow within the industry as an artist and dedicated performer. Ryan Keating remains committed to creating meaningful musical experiences that connect with audiences and fellow musicians alike.
